THE SORROWFUL WAY

THE SORROWFUL WAY

One in a crowd of many, Simon of
Cyrene in Jerusalem for Passover,
Didn't know he would see the only
Sacrificial Lamb of God....soldiers

Compelled him to bear the cross of
The one called JESUS....stumblinĝ
Under the weight of the crossbèam
That crucifixion day, walked the way

Of suffering, struggling to bear it all
Alone on his bruised, battered body
The Cyrenian met the Savior, on the
Via Dolorosa, to the hill of Golgatha.

Simon the father of Alexander and
Rufus, met Messiah, Jesus Christ,
Son of GOD....and the great "I Am,"
On that historical day when Christ

Was crucified for sins of the whole
World, as mockers and gawkers saw
God's Son bear the sins of us all, so
That we could be restored and know

Fellowship with GOD, after man's fall.

*It's thought by some that the Rufus in this verse is likely referring to Rufus the son of Simon in Mark 15:21, otherwise why would Mark have made it a point to include Rufus in his text. It's clear that this Rufus was well known by Paul as a faithful follower of Christ, and that his mother was also known by Paul. We're not told more about this but I think th⁰at it's an interesting piece of the story of Simon being compelled to bear Christ's cross on that crowded street in Jerusalem at Passover time, and then to mention that he's the father of Alexander and Rufus.*
