About Cheryl

Poetry by Cheryl is a website created to bring glory and honor to GOD. Cheryl has been writing for many years and discovered her love for writing as a child of eight or nine years old, though her career path took the road of working in the medical field, which allowed her the freedom of living in Oregon for seven years, though she grew up in Texas.

During all those working years, Cheryl took many creative classes as time allowed, such as writing, drawing, painting, calligraphy and ceramics. She still loved writing, and many times along the way, would write new poems, prose and ponderings in journals.

Having specialized medical training allowed Cheryl to take part in two different short term medical missions trips, where a team of doctors, nurses, technologists, and helpers, got to use their skills to help others in different parts of the world.

One of these trips was into the interior of Mexico, where our team ministered medical treatments to an Indian people group that spoke their native dialect, and they had no access to medical care. Fortunately, we had several Mexican nationals who worked along side of our team, doing the translating for us.

The second short term medical missions trip was a medical team that was invited to go to Ukraine, by a sister church that Cheryl's church had partnered with. This Ukranian church was located approximately an hour from Kieve. The people from the church were welcoming and very giving. They gave us the best of what they had. The only hospital where we stayed was in a city of approximately 100,000 people. Many of the procedures and medicines that were readily available in the USA, weren't available there. The latest technology wasn't available either, such as MRI scanners, and the only CAT scan machine was very outdated. This trip was in 1996.

Both of these missions trips lasted for two weeks, and were extremely interesting and rewarding. It was great to be a part of a medical team that loved the LORD and loved helping people with their medical expertise.

One of the main things that was learned on both of these trips, is that Americans are blessed way beyond what most of the world is, in terms of finances and worldly things. To put it differently...we are very spoiled! Cheryl learned a lot and believes everyone could benefit from visiting other countries and cultures, to see how very blessed we are living in the USA.
